Work Station #5: "Counting Socks" -- Skip Counting by 2's
Skill/Objective:
Students will skip count and write numbers orally from two to thirty.
Materials:
Description of Activity:
The students will all bring a pair of socks in from home to practice counting by two's. The teacher will prepare laminated numbers in advance as well as hang a clothesline across the classroom on which to hang all of the socks and numbers with clothespins. The teacher will use a couple of variations for this activity to reinforce the skill of counting by twos and then provide opportunities for repetition.
Ideas for Differentiation:
The teacher will be able to help and challenge any students after this group activity is done as the students move on to the skip counting worksheets, attached. The second worksheet goes beyond 30, which will challenge those students who readily understand skip counting and need to be pushed further, and the teacher will evaluate each student and work individually with anyone who may be struggling with the concept during Station Time.
