Work Station # 7: "I Have" and Ice Cream Towers -- Skip Counting by 10's
Skill/Objective:
Students will skip count by tens orally, order numbers from ten to one hundred, and respond to questions based on these skills.
Materials:
Description of Activity:
Students will create "Ice Cream Towers" by counting by tens (as seen in the illustration, above). The teacher will first model how to do this on a Velcro board or Promethean board and then each student will assemble their own tower, counting by tens and putting the numbers in the correct order. As a follow-up activity, the students will participate in the "I Have" game, each with several numbers, some of which review skip counting by 2's and 5's (from previous classes), but mostly focusing on skip counting by 10's through 100.
Ideas for Differentiation:
The teacher will be available to help students who may be struggling with their skip counting in addition to have the "counting by tens" reaady for further practice (see below). Those who need more of a challenge may create more "ice cream scoops" for their cone, going beyond 100.
