Work Station 2: Frog Build, Count, and Write
Skill/Objective:
Students will count numbers up to 20 orally, demonstrate one-to-one correspondence, select the correct numeral to match the number of objects in a set, and write the correct corresponding number.
Materials:
Description of Activity:
Using the math mat with ten frames (see website link below), students will scoop a certain number of pieces -- beans or plastic flies -- and count them as they place them in each frame, writing this number on their recording sheet. They will do this several times. If they scoop more than twenty, the students will place the extra pieces in the box at the bottom of the page.
Ideas for Differentiation:
For students who may need extra support in counting, the teacher can encourage them to start by scooping, counting, and recording smaller numbers. The teacher can encourage students who need an additional challenge to take bigger scoops and count beyond the twenty allotted spots, including the extra pieces they put in the box, and write these numbers on their recording form.
