Work Station 3: Counting to 50, Step by Step
Skill/Objective:
Students will count and write numbers by ones to 50.
Materials:
Description of Activity:
This is a "get out of the classroom" activity that encourages the students to work together. They will be counting stairs as they walk up and down them, starting together as a group and then each receiving a number card and assembling themselves in the correct order without talking. (see activity instructions below)
Ideas for Differentiation:
For the stair counting component of this activity, those students who are adept at counting to 50 will be able to help any classmate who may be struggling. After returning to the classroom, the students will be working on worksheets, which the teacher can differentiate based on ability.
For students who may need extra support in counting, the teacher will have some worksheets that have several of the numbers through 50 filled in for the writing component of this exercise. For those students who need more challenge, the worksheet will be empty and they will need to fill in each of the numbers through 50 (see worksheets below).
